How Many Hours You Need to Sleep According to Your Age

Most of us know that getting a good night’s sleep is important, but too few of us actually make those eight or so hours between the sheets a priority.

To further complicate matters, stimulants like coffee and energy drinks, alarm clocks, and external lights—including those from electronic devices—interferes with our "circadian rhythm" or natural sleep/wake cycle.

The amount and quality of sleep we get determine how well we will do through the day and how productive we’ll be.

Quality sleep is crucial for every person. Especially for those who are dealing with chronic diseases and pain management issues.

Sleep needs vary across ages and are especially impacted by lifestyle and health.

To determine how much sleep you need, it's important to assess not only where you fall on the "sleep needs spectrum," but also to examine what lifestyle factors are affecting the quality and quantity of your sleep such as work schedules and stress.

The infographic you will see below has been revealed by the National Institute of Sleep and it reflects on a 24-hour period.

Keep in mind that this is the total sleep you get during a 24-hour period. So, if you took a 30-minute nap, that counts, too.
