Watch: How To Make Fire And Electricity Using A Lemon

Being prepared means being equipped with the proper supplies you may need in the event of an emergency or disaster.

Batteries are some of the essential part of a survival kit. Besides allowing you to carry electronic devices on the go without having to plug them into a wall outlet, a battery could be able to generate electricity and fire as well.

But if you don't have any batteries with you when disaster strikes, you could easily make a battery out of lemon.

Making a Single Lemon Battery.

You will need:
- 1 lemon
- 6 copper strips
- 6 galvanized nails
- copper wires or aluminum foil
- steel wool for testing

1. Squeeze the lemon without breaking its skin. You can roll between your palms by applying a small amount of downward pressure. The squeezing action releases the juices inside the lemon needed for the battery to work.

2. Cut a small slit through the rind in the middle of the lemon. The slit needs to be large enough to insert the copper strips about halfway into the lemon.

3. Pushed the nailsinto the lemon about 2 centimeters away from the copper. These items will serve as the positive and negative ends of your battery. Be careful not to have the nail and penny touch within each lemon. If they touch, the battery will not function properly and you won’t get any voltage.

The acidity of the juice in a lemon makes it ideal for this sort of chemical reaction. It contains the solution of molecules necessary to carry electric current between the two metal ends of a battery.

Watch the video below to see exactly how's it done.
