13 Foods That Can Trigger Acne Breakout

We've all experienced acne breakout way back in our teenage years and there's no denying that it's our worst nightmare.

Breakouts typically occur on the face, neck, chest, back and shoulders -- areas of the body with the largest number of oil glands.

Your oil glands moisturize and protect delicate skin tissue, but when dead skin cells block the glands, oil can build up and cause a bacterial reaction, resulting in the inflammation associated with acne.

A ton of research has been done on what exactly causes acne but the findings are somewhat unclear. There’s no single cause of breakouts, and what triggers a pimple in one person might be benign to another.

Although some studies suggest that food may contribute to acne formation, most doctors agree that acne actually results from a combination of factors, including hormonal changes, genetic predisposition and skin friction.

While each person responds differently to certain types of foods, there are specific foods that are known to spark a reaction.

Below is a list of trigger foods for acne.

1. Cheese

2. Peanut Butter

3. Milk

4. Chocolate

5. Soda

6. Pizza

7. French Fries

8. Nuts

9. Spicy Foods

10. Fast Foods

11. Ice Cream

12. Potato Chips

13. Sushi

If you’re experiencing breakouts, try eliminating one or two of these foods at a time to see if it helps to keep your skin clear. If you want to make sure you don’t breakout, avoid all of these foods altogether as much as possible.
