If Your Pet Pressed Its Head Against The Wall Better Bring Them To The Vet ASAP

Pet parents from around the globe have documented all the cute, funny, strange, weird, and questionable things their pets do and posted it on social media. Some pets even have their own Facebook or Instagram accounts.

One recent post of a pet parent showing her dog pressing it's head up against the wall lead experts to study why some pets do this action.

Head pressing is a serious medical condition which causes a dog or any other pet to press the top of his or her head against a wall, into the floor or other large solid objects for no apparent reason.

It’s generally an indication of a neurological condition, damage to the nervous system, or a metabolic disorder. Also, at least in dogs, head pressing affects all breeds and age ranges.

You should not be concerned if your pet rubs his or her head against you for affection or attention. This kind of head butting is completely different from head pressing, which is an obvious effort to press the head into firm stationary objects.

Recognizing head pressing is key to getting a pet or animal to the emergency vet before things get worse. Again, this is highly variable depending on the underlying cause.

Since head pressing is a possible sign of something potentially life threatening, he or she should be seen by a veterinarian the same day.
